I try not to be overly political these days as I have other things I like to focus on, like my job and my family most importantly. But this election season as been crazy to say the least. I am disappointed in the direction our country is going, and the lengths it goes to in an attempt to avoid the real problems with our political system.
I have many friends on my friends list, some family and some close friends, who are supporting Trump and some who are supporting Bernie Sanders. I have a few friends who are voting Libertarian but their support goes to either Gary Johnson or Austin Peterson. I myself align with a more Libertarian perspective and am supporting Gary Johnson. But the reason for supporting him is more than I am libertarian and more than not liking the current political landscape.
The reason I am voting Gary Johnson is because he does not represent an established party. He does not represent the statuesque. You see there is this idea in our country that if we continue to vote for the same two parties over and over again that we are going to fix things. That the problems our country faces are going to get better. We believe that only our party has the answers to the problems our country faces. Things such as poorly reported unemployment numbers, poverty, veterans affairs and civil rights issues as well.
Many of my friends supporting Donald Trump are supporting him because he "isn't an establishment politician." While this is true, that is not a reason to vote for him. Considering his track record, he is as much a liberal as Hillary Clinton and much more of a socialist than Bernie Sanders. He represents an idea that "I can do whatever I want without consequences."
That does not fly in an increasingly volatile world where knee jerk reactions lead to decade long conflicts that only evolve into new conflicts. Not only this, but Mr Trump thinks he can just write off US debt and keep borrowing recklessly as the parties currently nickel and dining senior citizens, stealing from the middle class, suppressing the poor and cheating veterans out of rightfully earned benefits. He's the same as all the other politicians. He doesn't care. And the thing is, he's tricked you into thinking he does.
[EDIT: I was made aware of a false statement by Donald Trump] But what he's doing, tapping into your anger. He is turning you against your fellow Americans. He is feeding off your anger. He spouts off knowing he will get a reaction from his supporters. He makes bold claims knowing you will eat it right up. Simply because it's what you want to hear. What he doesn't tell you, is the truth. That he hates the free market. He hates competition. If he had the choice of advancing his interests or giving you a job, he would advance his own interests. He doesn't care. All he cares about is that you have been made angry because he told you who you could point your finger at for the position you are in. Rather than pointing the finger at the 500+ members of congress writing laws and regulation in to line their pockets.
He is distracting you from what really matters. He is dividing this country. But here I make a turn to the other side of the table as well.
Mr Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Two polar opposites on the democratic ticket to become the Democrat presidential candidate. One rallying behind the support of people drowning in student loan debt, handing out hope on a silver coated paper plate. One rallying those with deep pockets and the ability to manipulate polls to remain in power. Both feeding off of so called social justice.
Bernie Sanders while well intentioned is not the solution either. And believe me, the idea of free college is great but what expense does that come? $1.8Trillion a year in additional spending on top of our current spending which puts us $500+ Billion in the red every year. What he proposes would not only hurt American industry, but send a lot of money and investments packing their bags to countries who support the growth, not only of wealth, but innovation. Believe it or not, many of the wealthiest 1% provide hundreds of millions in charitable support to global relief initiatives. To fighting hunger, poverty and to creating jobs. They invest in innovative companies that create new jobs, new technology and improve life as we know it.
Mr Sanders also proposes to reallocate from our military which I don't necessarily oppose, but there will be many service members who will lose their jobs due to this. This is not good either. You see, no matter how you slice this social justice pie. This college debt pie. Someone has to pay for it. Will it be you? Or me? How can we know that what he proposes will work? We don't. We are comparing what he is proposing to countries that are a lot more contained and much smaller population wise to test these things. Not everything scales.
And Hillary Clinton, I don't know of anyone supporting her in my friends list, but she is a treasonous woman. She mishandled classified information that would have put anyone else in that situation in Federal Military Prison. There are Generals, Colonels and Enlisted members doing more time for less. She willingly egged on a conflict in Libya, encouraged Obama to give weapons to terrorists and she is still the front runner for the democrat ticket. How is this possible? She's committed huge injustice against the US and she still is able to walk across that stage. That is not right. On top of that, she is purposefully manipulating polls to come out on top. It is not even fair. If she is doing it in the Democrat Primary, she will more than likely continue to do it in the general election.
The fact is, you are being fooled into thinking voting for any of these candidates is going to change anything in this country. It won't. You are voting for the same party. The same ideas. The same platforms that they have been stomping their foot on, and nothing has changed. They have been in gridlock in congress, failing to uphold their constitutional duties as well as failing to protect your constitutional rights. They have lined their pockets with the money of large corporations (with the exception of Trump). And this won't stop with Trump, Bernie or Hillary. It won't.
Insanity is trying the same thing over and over while expecting different results each time. Voting Democrat or Republican won't change this country. Voting for a real change, like a Third Party would. It adds a third player into the mix. It makes it harder for one single party to control the outcome of this nation. It gives people voices. It gives change a chance. And not just the change that one party wants, change that the country needs.
We need to put aside our hate, our warmongering, our selfishness about this country and take pride in what it was founded to do. We were founded to be the home of the lost, the broken and the beaten. We have grown to the world power we are because of diversity. Not because everyone agreed on everything, but because we agreed on one thing. Helping our neighbor. Being strong for them when they are struggling. No one does that anymore. But we should.
We should stop hating illegals coming into our country. Not all of them are rapists or murderers. Some of them just want a better life, and honestly a lot of them are working jobs that we have been too prideful to work. We have to change the way we look at the world. We can do so much good if we stop fighting. Start listening and start respecting. No one person will have the same religious views, political views, lifestyle, dreams, goals or anything like that.
But at the end of the day we are all human. We are all in this race of life together. Not one person escapes the end of the race, so let's do our best to make sure everyone is taken care of while we are still running.
