So almost a month ago, my wife and I moved all the way from Wyoming to South Carolina. Two long days of driving lead us to the couch of her parents. Since then we have been endlessly been searching for a place to call home. A place that will carry us through our endeavors and eventually lead us to purchasing a home of our own. This is our plan and slowly yet surely we are making things work.
One problem we face though is my job is going away. While other positions exactly like mine are mobile, my position was meant to be local; so moving away from where I was in Wyoming means that my job goes away with that. I get to work one more hitch (2 week stretch) and then I will be done with the company. A few bills paid and two months rent paid and we are covered for the time being. We have to find jobs though. And without a college degree in the south, finding a good paying job is difficult.
Most jobs down here want to pay you the bare minimum for the work you do. It means that the $16/hr and 88 hours of overtime I get each paycheck would need to be filled with two jobs, or even one job that would pay at least $24/hr to make up for the lost income. If only my company was reaching it's threshold where I could draw a salary. If only, if only...
So here I am, in a pickle trying to find a job to support my wife with no college degree or education to back me up. I'll keep you updated on the situation as things progress. But in the mean time. If you know anyone hiring in the Greenville, South Carolina area. Tell them I'm looking for work. I'll be glad to send them my resume and any references.
