So here we are, 20 days after my son was born and being a dad is definitely a new life change. Sleep is a thing of the past, and even the sleep caught isn't enough to properly function throughout the day but that's okay. Elizabeth and I have been learning new things about ourselves, our limits and more. We are also learning some hard lessons about life and parenting but overall things are great.
I am working a job with CPR Cell Phone Repair in Easley, South Carolina as a store leader. Fixing phones, tablets and computers as they come in. It is interesting trying to focus on so little sleep, but playing music in the background helps. I have been with the company for almost 3 months now, and things are looking up.
Keeping a schedule for sleep is probably the most impossible thing at this stage. Right now Oliver is going through a formula change because of difficulty digesting iron and lactose in his food. Because of this, we have had to switch to a very expensive formula called Similac Alimentum. It has been particularly hard because of his stomach being so upset by the previous formula we were using causing too much gas, bloating and bowel movements that were enough to stand a grown mans hair straight up and peel paint off the walls.
With the new formula though he is sleeping better and seems to be feeling better. We are having to get a note from the doctor because we have to change the formula WIC will cover. Right now with Elizabeth not being able to work yet, my income is not enough to cover all of our expenses in terms of food and other necessities. I sit wondering what we will eat for dinner because we have not had enough money to buy any food because we are spending it on formula and necessities for Oliver.
It makes for a slightly stressful time, though we are trying to enjoy as much of the time as we can without trying to worry about finances too much. With Oliver being formula fed, Elizabeth can work a few more straight hours, giving us the financial mobility we need to actually afford food. But God has been particularly gracious on our behalf, providing meals and help with Oliver when Elizabeth and I are at our wits end on no sleep and trying to calm Oliver down from his stomach being upset from the formula we were using.
I hope to start writing here more. Keeping everyone updated on our progress with Oliver. Maybe I'll post some pictures of Oliver today or tomorrow.
For those wondering. Oliver was born on April 7th, 2016 at 9:24PM. He weighed 9lbs 1.8oz and measured at 21.25 inches.
